How CannaBIZ Collects started.
Brett Gelfand found himself deep in the budding cannabis industry. Back in 2015, he was the CEO of a vertically integrated cannabis company in Colorado. Yet, amidst the haze of success, a persistent cloud loomed over him: unpaid bills.
It was during one particularly exasperating afternoon, as Brett sifted through stacks of overdue invoices, that he had an epiphany. He called his father, a seasoned veteran in the art of debt collection, having once owned a commercial collection agency that catered to Fortune 500 companies. With over 30 years of experience under his belt, Ross had the uncanny ability to transform delinquent payments into liquid gold.
"You want to bring collections into the world of weed?" Was the first question Brett asked Ross.
After Brett explained the nuances of the cannabis industry and how strict regulations, state laws, taxes, and the unavailability of regular financing affected the marijuana industry, Ross agreed that debt collection in the cannabis industry was a pressing matter. Drawn in by the bold suggestion and the possibility of one last adventure, the father-son duo embarked on a journey to reinvent the collection game, blending Ross's tried-and-true methods with the avant-garde vibes of the cannabis industry.
